Writer offers another way to make sure your lost pet is found

The letter of Peggy O’Connell (July 26 Examiner) with reference to making sure your lost pet can be found was very informative. I would like to add another method for ensuring that a lost dog or cat or other pet is quickly reunited with its owner. That is microchipping.

Your vet can painlessly insert a microchip the size of a grain of rice between the animal’s shoulder blades. All vets and shelters have scanners to read a microchip, and the owner can be easily notified. The Companion Animal Recovery System sponsored by the American Kennel Club has been 100 percent successful in returning lost microchipped animals to their owners.

Take the time to call your vet now. You won’t be sorry. It is vacation season. Often we travel with our pets. It would be horrible if a beloved dog or cat would somehow get lost in an unfamiliar area, possibly without its collar and tags on.
