Millstone Community Ed. offers variety of classes

Millstone Township Community Education will open its fall season Oct. 1 with a variety of classes.

A cardiac and weight-training workout class will run for six weeks, Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-8 p.m., Oct. 1-Nov. 17 at the Middle School. Participants should bring 3- or 5-pound. weights and a mat. The fee is $60.

A quilting class for adults is an all-inclusive course including fabric selection, preparation, quilt design, machine piecing, hand/machine quilting, and finishing. Students will complete a small lap quilt. Students should bring their own machine and will purchase their own supplies (not required for first class). Linda Hahn is a certified National Quilting Association teacher and a 2001 nominee for "Professional Quilters" magazine’s Teacher of the Year. The class will be held Wednesdays, Oct. 1-Nov. 12, 7-9 p.m. at the Middle School in room 161. The fee is $65.

"Preschool Creatures and Critters" will help preschoolers learn about different animal groups and their environments. Stories and crafts will be part of the program. Colleen Mantell will conduct the class Wednesdays, Oct. 1-Nov. 12, 1:15-2 p.m. at the Millstone Community Center, Route 524/Stagecoach Road, Clarksburg section of Millstone. The fee is $50.

"The Joy of Music," for ages newborn to 3 years (with parent), will feature music through movement, instrument play, and children’s nursery rhymes and chants. Dorothy Sikkora, singer/songwriter, owner Joy of Music/Music Together studio, of Monmouth County, will conduct the class Thursdays, Oct. 2-Dec. 18, 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Millstone Community Center. The fee is $130.

A class in watercolor painting will cover basic techniques, but will allow more advanced students to work at their own pace. Terry LePore will teach the class Thursdays, Oct. 2- Nov. 13. 7-9 p.m., in the Middle School art room; the fee is $65.

A course in Office XP will offer instruction in the newest Microsoft Office suite and explore all the programs offered, including Word and Excel. Ed Tranosky will teach the course Thursdays, Oct. 2- 30, 7-9 p.m. at the Middle School, room 175; the fee is $65.

A class in cake decorating will teach students how to create icing borders, lettering, pattern transfers and Wilton roses; students will decorate a cake with a floral pattern for the final project. Colleen Mantell will conduct the class Thursdays, Oct. 2-16, 7-9 p.m. at the Middle School. The fee is $30, plus $25 for a student kit.

Classes in ballroom or Latin dancing will be offered on Thursdays, Oct. 2-30, at the Middle School. Ballroom dancing will include the waltz, fox trot, tango and jitterbug, from 7-8 p.m. Latin dance will include the cha cha, salsa, rhumba and merengue, from 8-9 p.m. Partners are not required for either class. Prior students are welcome to come back to perfect their technique. The fee is $35 per person or $55 per couple.
