Mental Health Players to perform for Senior Spot

The Mental Health Players of Southwestern New Jersey will be featured at the monthly meeting of New Egypt United Methodist Church’s Senior Spot Feb. 24. The event is open to the community.

The Mental Health Players, operating through the Mental Health Association of New Jersey, is a group of volunteers who perform throughout the state and come from all walks of life. They bring their interactive theater performances to civic organizations, schools, churches and synagogues, businesses and corporations.

The players use role-playing techniques to simulate real-life situations, including parent-child conflicts, coping with hospitalizations, moving, maintaining independence, forgetfulness and other situations that cause stress. Their goal is to help audiences become more aware of themselves and their own reactions in similar circumstances. After each role-play, the audience is encouraged to respond to the players with their own comments, questions and suggestions.

Senior Spot meets from 1:15 to 3:15 on Tuesdays in Atkinson Hall of the New Egypt United Methodist Church, 38 N. Main St., New Egypt. The group provides an opportunity for senior citizens to enjoy light refreshments, and events are planned each week to encourage conversation and fellowship.

For more information, call the church at (609) 758-2147 or contact Senior Spot coordinator Patty Wysong, (609) 758-1801.
