Relay for Life kick-off
events scheduled

The American Cancer Society invites individuals who want to honor cancer survivors and caregivers, or pay tribute to those who have lost their battle with cancer, to join its Relay for Life, scheduled for various dates in May and June in eight Shore communities.

Thousands of Monmouth and Ocean County residents are expected to join 4,200 other communities across America for this annual overnight event that joins teams of 10-15 people who camp out, picnic, and take turns circling a track to raise awareness and funds to support cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services.

The Relay for Life kickoff rally is where anyone — families, caregivers, cancer survivors, schools, companies, etc. — who is interested in learning more about the event is invited to get together to begin the Relay for Life season and their community’s event.

The following a kick-off rally will be held Feb. 26, 7-9 p.m. at Colts Neck High School, Five Points Road and Route 537. The Relay for Life will be held June 12-13 at Freehold Raceway.

Relay for Life events are also planned for FirstEnergy Park, Lakewood, May 7-8; Ocean County College, Toms River, May 21-22; and New Egypt High School June 12-13. Kickoff events for these rallies have already been held. For more information on how to get involved, call (800) ACS-2345 or visit www.cancer.org.
