Science, CPR, drawing, Easter craft classes slated

  • Millstone Community Education is offering the following classes. Preregistration is required.

    “Science Sleuths,” for ages 3-5, includes activities on topics such as insects, the ocean, transportation and animals. Instructor Dena Kaiser will conduct the class Wednesdays, March 2-April 6, 10:30-11:15 a.m. at the Community Center. The fee is $65.

    “Music Together” for young children and their caregivers, features songs, finger play, and chants using movement, singing, and a variety of instruments. Each participant receives a cassette tape, songbook, and CD to continue the fun at home. The 10-week program will be held Thursdays, April 7-June 9, 9:30-10:15 a.m. or 10:30-11:15 a.m. The fee is $185.

    “Painting With the Masters” teaches elementary school students how to paint while reproducing famous Impressionist paintings. Each 90-minute class includes all paints and materials. Classes will be held Thursdays, March 3, 10 and April 7, 3:45-5:15 p.m., at the Millstone Elementary School in the art room. The fee is $20 for each class, and students may register for one or all.

    “Comic Book Illustration” will include instruction in 3-D form, color, figures, shading and layout, by instructor Guy Dorian. Students should bring drawing pencils and an 11-by-17-inch sketch pad. The class will be held Wednesdays, March 9-30, 2:45-4:15 p.m., at the Millstone Middle School art room. The fee is $60.

    A chess class will offer instruction on the basic moves and strategies, and include games and a tournament. The class will be held Wednesdays, March 2-30, at the two schools: 2:45-3:45 p.m. at the middle school, and 3:45-4:45 p.m. at the elementary school. The fee is $50.

    “Sugar Egg Easter Panorama,” for all ages, will teach attendees how to design and finish a hollow, non-edible sugar egg, opening to a spring scene. All supplies will be provided. The class will be held at the elementary school in the art room; the fee is $12.

    American Heart Association CPR will include instruction in adult, child and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation, as well as the Heimlich maneuver, and will include a written and skills test. Bob Trifiro, a certified AHA instructor and emergency technician, will conduct the class March 22 at the middle school. The fee is $50.     Planning session for

    preschool’s anniversary

    Girl Scouts to hold

    open house March 6

    Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts will hold an open house March 6, 1-4 p.m., at its new activity center, 120 Yellow Brook Road, as well as at the adjacent Camp Sacajawea, 242 Adelphia Road, both in Howell.
