Commencement ceremony held for students

The Upper Freehold Regional School District bid farewell June 22 to the class of 2005.

Schools Superintendent Robert Connelly introduced the graduating students from Allentown, Millstone and Upper Freehold at a commencement ceremony held outdoors on the grounds of Allentown High School.

AHS Principal Christopher Nagy addressed the graduates, as did valedictorian Lipica Shah and salutatorian Christina Butera.

Throughout her time at Allentown High School, Shah said she learned four important lessons.

“Don’t be afraid to take risks, or you will miss valuable experiences,” Shah said. “Never think that the impossible won’t happen, because chances are, it will.

“No one will believe in you until you believe in yourself,” Shah said, “and wherever you go, whatever you do, always remember your roots, because without them you’d still be a seed.”

Butera also provided advice to her fellow classmates, quoting John Lennon.

“Life is what happens to you while you’re making plans,” she said.

Butera reminded those in attendance to “enjoy the little things” in life because “often people get caught up in the big picture.”

Then, as faculty, friends, parents and other family members looked on, Board of Education President Jeanette Bressi presented diplomas to the graduating class.

After the last student, Michael A. Zekas, received his diploma, members of the class of 2005 moved their tassels on their caps from right to left, signifying that they had officially graduated.
