Rainbow International of Monmouth and Ocean counties and Mr. Rooter of Central New Jersey are offering immediate employment opportunities to evacuees of Hurricane Katrina.

Rainbow International, a full-service restoration and cleaning company, does not require applicants to have any restoration or cleaning experience; the company will offer a full apprenticeship program. Those applying to Mr. Rooter, a full-service plumbing and drain cleaning company, do need prior plumbing experience.

Both franchise companies are owned by Andrew and Sheryl August. The Freehold-based Mr. Rooter serves Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean counties, and the Freehold-based Rainbow International serves Monmouth and Ocean counties.

The Monmouth/Ocean Chapter of the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners (NJAWBO) will host a luncheon meeting Sept. 28 at noon. New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants is offering a Disaster Recovery Guide to provide advice on how to deal with many of the tax and insurance claim issues involved in recovery after a disaster. The guide also offers advice for advance preparation, should disaster suddenly strike.

The guide covers many of the details victims face, including documenting losses for tax and insurance purposes and replacing personal identification papers. The guide includes Internal Revenue Service forms and publications for use in filing casualty loss claims. instructions for replacing personal documents such as birth certificates and Social Security cards, and tips on documenting damages and losses for insurance claims.

Members of the Central Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) will participate in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation’s Race for the Cure in Princeton on Oct. 16. The community service committee of NAWBO-Central Jersey is organizing a team of NAWBO members, family and friends to walk the co-ed 5K (three-mile) health walk. The Powerhouse Team will be led by NAWBO member and team captain Mary Kinch, NAWBO-Central Jersey’s community service chair.

Schoor DePalma, an engineering and consulting firm based in Manalapan, announced that it has been selected by NJBIZ for the fifth consecutive year as one of New Jersey’s Finest companies. Dr. Deborah Breitstein of Animal Health Care of Marlboro recently attended the first course of the credentialing process for physical therapy and rehabilitation for animals at the University of Tennessee School of Veterinary Medicine.

According to a press release from Animal Health Care, animals can benefit from physical therapy as post-operative patients, as an adjunct therapy for pain management and arthritis, for weight management and return-to-function training, and as a step-down process from hospital release after a brief or extended hospitalization.

Animal Health Care will incorporate a dedicated area to rehabilitative therapy in its new hospital, which is undergoing renovations and expansion, which will include an underwater treadmill for planned therapies and an area for owners to work with their pets, similar to working out at a gym under the guidance of a personal “trainer.”

Terhune Orchards, Princeton, will hold its annual Apple Day weekend Sept. 24 and 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature pony rides, tractor-drawn wagon rides, horse-drawn wagon rides, displays, a corn stalk maze, country music by The Daisy Jug Band, barbecued pork sandwiches and other food.

Parking will be available at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Route 206, with shuttle buses to the farm. Admission is $5, with children under age 3 admitted free.
