Hospital auxiliary to host ‘Harvest Dance’

The Millstone Township Hospital Auxiliary will hold its annual “Harvest Dance,” sponsored by Millstone Elks Lodge 2613, from 7-11 p.m. Nov. 5. The Lodge is located on Burnt Tavern Road in Millstone.

The event will feature a buffet dinner, cash bar, and music provided by a disc jockey. Tickets are $20 per person. All funds from the event will benefit CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township.

Photo, CPR, Office XP, Spanish classes offered

Millstone Community Education is offering the following classes. Classes will be held at the Millstone Middle School unless otherwise noted. Preregistration is required.

“The Power of Your Digital Camera,” a three-session course, will be offered Tuesdays, Oct. 18-Nov. 1, 7-8 p.m., in Room 151. The fee is $50.

A course on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) will be offered Oct. 18, 7-9:30 p.m. in the art room. The instructor is Bob Trifiro, a certified American Heart Association teacher and emergency medical technician (EMT). The fee is $50.

Basic conversational Spanish for adults will be held Tuesdays, Oct. 18-Nov. 22, 7:30-9 p.m. in the library The fee is $75.

“Refine Your Personal Image” will address color, style, shape, fashion and image. Sharon Kornstein, owner of Image Design Consulting, will teach the class Oct. 26, 7-9 p.m., in the library. The fee is $22.

“Office XP Computer Essentials” is a four-session review of computer basics that will update students on the current aspects of Windows, including Word, Excel, and e-mail programs. Instructor Nick Santarsiero has been a computer consultant for five years. The course will be held Tuesdays, Oct. 18-Nov. 8, 7:30-9 p.m., in computer room 151. The fee is $52.

“Music Together,” an eight-week program for infants, toddlers and preschoolers with their parent/caregiver, will begin Oct. 20. Classes are offered either 9:30-10:15 a.m. or 10:30-11:15 a.m. and will be held at the Millstone Township Community Center, Route 524, Stagecoach Road, Clarksburg. The fee is $112 at registration and $45 to instructor for supplies.

‘Victorian Tea’ Oct. 16 at St. Joseph’s

The Ladies of St. Joseph’s Church, Millstone, will host a “Victorian Tea” in the church hall Oct. 16 at 2 p.m.

“Unlacing the Victorian Woman” will be presented by costume designer and historian Barbara Meyer Darlin. Finger sandwiches and other refreshments will be served. Attendees are invited to bring their own special teacup, if they desire.

Christian choir’s concert to feature Michael Card

The Community Christian Choir is celebrating 10 years of serving the community through charity musical productions. As part of the celebration, the choir will host a concert with Christian recording artist Michael Card at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Patriots Theater in Trenton. Card, who has been singing for 25 years, has sold more than 4 million albums and has 19 No. 1 hits to his credit. He has recorded 20 albums, co-authored 14 books and hosts two radio programs.

The Community Christian Choir, based in central New Jersey, is an ecumenical choir with vocalists from more than 35 churches throughout central and southern New Jersey as well as Bucks County, Pa. There are 80 children in the children’s choir and 50 members in the adult choir.

Although the choir’s concerts are open to the public with free-will donations dedicated to various local charities, there will be a charge for the Oct. 14 performance because of the guest artist and other fees. Women’s group slates blood drive in Allentown

The Women’s Association of Allentown will hold its annual community blood drive Nov. 19 from 9 a.m to noon at the Allentown United Methodist Church, 17 Church St., Allentown.

Christian co-op preschool open house

The Allentown Co-op Christian Preschool, 23 Church St., will hold an open house Oct. 19, 7-8:30 p.m.

The preschool offers programs for ages 2, 3 and 4, as well as enrichment classes for half-day kindergartners.

Seeking crafters for ‘Holiday Emporium’

The Villagers of Allentown will hold its annual “Holiday Emporium” Nov. 12 from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. at the Allentown First Aid building, Route 526.

Domestic Violence Crisis Team training slated

A training session for volunteers interested in joining the Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT) of 180 Turning Lives Around, Hazlet, will be held Oct. 25-Nov. 17.

The volunteer advocates, whose identities are kept anonymous, work in conjunction with the police to provide support, information and referrals to victims of domestic violence at police headquarters. The volunteer advocates are trained to empower victims to make decisions about their own lives. A DVRT volunteer is available 24 hours a day to meet confidentially with a victim. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, have access to transportation, possess a valid driver’s license, be willing to serve on an on-call shift basis, and submit to background investigations and fingerprinting.

The 40-hour mandatory training course will be provided to successful applicants during evening and weekend hours. The police departments and 180 are committed to culturally diverse teams to better serve the community, so bilingual capability is a plus.

Millstone WyldLife Club

open to kids in grades 6-8

The Millstone WyldLife Club will meet Oct. 15 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Millstone Township Community Center, Stagecoach Road/Route 524, Clarksburg. This month’s theme is “Survivor.”

Women’s club is open

to all Millstone women

The Millstone Township Women’s Organization is a nonprofit organization, founded in 1982, which currently has more than 40 members and is growing every year. The group consists of women of all ages who have a strong focus on community service. The organization is beginning its 24th year and has successfully raised and donated tens of thousands of dollars over the years toward various facets of the Millstone community. The club meets every fourth Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m., October through May, at the Millstone Township Community Center, Route 524/Stagecoach Road, Clarksburg section of Millstone. Millstone seniors seek

new members, slate trip

The Millstone Senior Citizens Organization is seeking new members. The meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, with the exception of November’s meeting, which will be held Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon. The center is located on Stagecoach Road/Route 524, next to the firehouse. The organization is also sponsoring a trip to the Surflight Theatre, Long Beach Island, on Oct. 16 to see “Broadway Bound.” The cost of the trip is $55 and includes dinner at the Bayberry Inn. Allentown FFA Chapter earns honors

The Allentown Chapter of FFA recently attended the Big E Fair in Springfield, Mass. The Eastern States Competition was held Sept. 16-18 during the “Big E,” which is the largest fair in New England for the public as well as for the FFA Eastern State Career Development Event (CDE) winners. The fair featured many types of food, games, rides and vendors, as well as horse and livestock shows. The FFA chapters competing at the fair came from the New England region as well as Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

The Allentown chapter had two teams competing: horse and poultry judging. The horse judging team — Josh Alster, Rachel Dey, Matt Runge and Amanda Sowa — placed fourth as a team. Individually, Dey and Sowa tied for seventh place, winning the bronze.

The poultry judging team — Karis Byram, Kelly Eiker, Bonnie Kizis and Laura Pinhas — placed second as a team. Individually, Byram placed ninth and Kizis placed third. Byram was awarded the bronze, and Kizis won the gold.
