Concert will help Special Olympics The Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi bands will be playing a local benefit concert for the Special Olympics in October. Special Olympics New Jersey (SONJ) has scheduled its second annual Benefit Concert for Oct. 25 at the Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall, which is located in Princeton, according to a Special Olympics press release. Celebrating its 36th year, SONJ is a nonprofit organization that provides year-round sports training in 23 sports and 140 competitions free of charge to more than 14,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities or other closely related developmental disabilities, according to the press release. Special Olympics programming is supported through donations and fundraising efforts such as the annual concert. This year's concert will feature Tedeschi's and Trucks' bands, which are touring together for the first time. The SONJ benefit will mark the start of their tour, the press release said. Trucks just released his band's first DVD. He is both the lead guitarist of the Allman Brothers Band and the new slide guitarist in Eric Clapton's band. Tedeschi, who crafts classic blues, rock, R&B, folk and gospel into her own musical style, is promoting Hope and Desire, her fourth album, according to the press release. Tickets for the benefit concert are on sale and can be purchased through www.jamforsonj.org or at the Richardson Auditorium box office by calling (609) 258-5000. Visit www.jamforsonj.org.
