Volunteers sought for county's SART
M
ake an impact by becoming a rape care advocate.
The N.J. Rape Care Program of 180 Turning Lives Around in Hazlet needs both men and women to become rape care advocates for victims of sexual violence in Monmouth County, according to a 180 Turning Lives Around press release.
180's rape care advocates are members of the Monmouth County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) who generously volunteer their time helping victims in crisis, the press release said.
No prior experience is needed, as the program's 70-hour, comprehensive training provides all the tools necessary to successfully advocate for survivors of sexual violence, according to the press release.
The program will provide training in the areas of sexual assault awareness, crisis intervention, hot-line counseling, the medical/legal/emotional needs of a sexual assault survivor and the criminal justice system in relation to sexual assault, according to the press release.
The program has 24-hour supervision, in addition to team leader support, regular meetings and ongoing training opportunities, the press release said.
Currently, 180 is accepting applications to participate in the 2007 Rape Care Advocate Training, scheduled to begin with a full-day orientation on Saturday, Jan. 6, at a location to be determined. Training will be held on Saturdays through Feb. 10.
