Assunpink boat ramp ready to use UPPER FREEHOLD — It’s smoother sailing for anglers on the Assunpink. A revamped boat ramp and parking lot have reopened to the public in the Assunpink Wildlife Management Area at the end of Imlaystown-Hightstown Road. The area had been closed for reconstruction since Labor Day. State Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Commissioner Lisa P. Jackson announced the reopening of the boat ramp on Dec. 14. “This new facility greatly improves public access to Assunpink Lake and will enable more people to enjoy fishing and boating in New Jersey,” Jackson said. Funded through the New Jersey Green Acres Program, the $458,000 facility replaces a small gravel ramp and parking area. The new recreational facility at the 225-acre lake is concrete and features a 50-foot-long fixed dock and paved parking area to accommodate more than 40 vehicles with boat trailers. The revamped site is fully accessible for people with disabilities and also has portable restrooms. The N.J. DEP’s Division of Fish & Wildlife, which manages the 6,300-acre Assunpink Wildlife Management Area, will oversee the operations of the boat ramp.
