Board of Ed. candidate kits available in Millstone

MILLSTONE - School board candidacy information is now available at the Board of Education office on Schoolhouse Road.

The deadline for filing nominating petitions to run for positions on the Millstone Township Board of Education is 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26. The election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 17, according to a press release from the Millstone Township School District.

"School board membership is a meaningful way to make a contribution to your community and its schools," James J. Dougherty Jr., president of the New Jersey School Boards Association, said in the press release. "I urge all qualified citizens to consider Board of Education membership."

Prospective school board candidates can obtain a School Board Candidate Kit at the Millstone Township Board of Education office. Published by the New Jersey School Boards Association, the School Board Candidate Kit includes information about legal qualifications for the school board candidacy, campaign procedures and the role of the school board member, according to the press release.

The kit also contains information about New Jersey's School Ethics Act along with important dates in the school election process and briefing sessions for school board candidates, according to the press release.

"Serving on your local school board doesn't require a degree in education," Dougherty said in the press release. "The most important attribute a candidate can bring to office is a sincere interest in the community, its children and their education."
