Sports Shorts Upper Freehold Allentown Soccer Association will once again be running a recreational soccer program at the Mark Harbourt Soccer Complex and Byron Johnson Park this spring. The program is open to boys and girls currently enrolled in grades K-8. Opening day is April 14. The expertise of UK Elite trainers will be utilized to coordinate kindergarten and first-grade levels. In addition, the return of the very popular "Lil' Nipper Program" will be held again this spring for children 4 and 5 years of age. The Allentown Grizzlies under-13 boys travel soccer team completed a successful winter indoor soccer season this month. They competed in the Howell Indoor Futsal League and finished with a 7-0-3 record. They won the championship winning both the semifinal and final games with shoot-out victories. Goalkeeper Christian Millar was outstanding in both games along with Kyle Alston, Bob Mayor, Tom Willet, Dave Hoge, Tyler Schwartz, Pete Turkowski, Max DiGiantomasso, Nick Caruso, Zack Caruso, Matt Molnar and Erin Sutphen. The Grizzlies also won the championship, posting a 3-0-1 record at the Allentown Indoor Tournament held at Peddie in January. They will start their outdoor spring season on March 18 competing in the Monmouth Ocean Travel Soccer League and will compete in several travel tournaments in the spring and summer. Congratulations to head coach Dan Caruso and the Grizzlies.
