Bush understands his job is not a popularity contest

The continuing character assassination aimed at the president of the United States, George W. Bush, by Democrats, especially, and, shamefully, by some Republicans is enough to make you just want to watch "American Idol" all day. Fortunately, President Bush understands that his job is not a popularity contest. Nor does he need a Howard Stern-like idiot for call-in votes to put his performance into next week's competition.

If anyone cares to take a look, President Bush is attempting to keep the world and the United States from total disaster. We go about our daily happy lives working, playing, laughing, vacationing, watching fourth-rate would-be singers on "American Idol," and people like Paris Hilton, Sean Penn, Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, Charles Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, doing things and saying things that tell me they all seem oblivious to the danger that lurks around every corner of the world, where despots are preparing to take away all that is precious to us and our lives.

We all know (because the media and politicians have told us time and again) that George W. Bush is responsible for Katrina and, possibly, the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa. Yeah! We also know "he lied" to get rid of Saddam Hussein. But do we have any logical inkling or concern that this president faces each day and night of his life the responsibility to respond to the most difficult tasks as president of the United States that any president has faced during his tenure? Since 2001, the USA has enjoyed the peace and safety that President Bush has provided for us at the cost of his own personal reputation. It would seem that there is no thought of these world problems facing him daily when you hear the constant barrage and attacks on the man who is holding his finger in the dike and trying to keep the flood waters behind the gate. Folks, President Bush is keeping the world from blowing up in the next ninth inning of the Red Sox-Yankee game at Fenway Park. Is there any chance that we can get a little respect and help and thanks here for a guy we elected twice to lead us?

I, for one, am pretty sick of Congress and its "we-know-everything" attitude in now "ruining" the United States of America. What a mistake it is turning out to be that the democrats have been empowered with the majority in the House and Senate. In my opinion, there is only one thing this Congress is proving for the electorate. These latest congressional actions and behavior appears reason enough to call for "term limits" on all Congressional representatives, Democrats and Republicans. Whoever said that serving in Congress should be a "lifetime" job and a means to get filthy rich, along with becoming totally obnoxious by their proposals and statements. Since when did the founding fathers give Congress the power to usurp the prerogatives of the commander-in-chief during war time?

I believe it is time for someone in the Congress and in the United States to take the lead in helping our president do his job. Otherwise, al-Qaeda, Ahmadinejad, Chavez, Castro, Putin, Syria, Korea, China, Africa, Mexico, Al Franken and Barbra Streisand, and you name it, may try to run our country for us. Better yet, perhaps all these detractors ought to stand in line to audition for the next "American Idol" fame.
