Millstone Township children hope for return of stolen bikes
BY JENNIFER KOHLHEPP
Staff Writer

MILLSTONE - Some township youngsters are hoping that whoever stole their bicycles might have a change of heart and will return them.

Allison Mains' 8-year-old and 4-year-old sons, along with their 5-year-old neighbor, ride their bikes to the school bus stop at the intersection of Ivins Lane and Millstone Road in the Clarksburg section of town nearly every weekday morning. Now, however, they will no longer be able to.

Between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. April 24, someone stole two of the three bikes the children had chained to a sign post where the bus picks them up. When they were dropped off later that day, the kids noticed that not only were their bikes missing, but three helmets, a set of knee pads and a bike lock were gone as well.

"The kids were all very upset and didn't understand why someone would do that," Mains said.

One of the bicycles stolen is a red mountain bike, and the other is a smaller, red bike with training wheels. The helmets were white, red and blue.

"The bikes were older," Mains said, "but it's the principle of the whole thing - and how disappointed the children were."

The kids are hoping that someone in the area might have seen something pertaining to the incident and will come forward with the information, according to Mains, or that the bikes might be returned to the bus stop if whoever took them starts to feel a little guilty. The family has reported the theft to the New Jersey State Police.
