Organic produce offered through community farm ROOSEVELT - Those interested in having fresh vegetables, herbs and flowers all growing season long should hurry to get their share. Roosevelt Community Supported Agriculture, which offers 100 shares per growing season, still has some openings for shareholders. Those with shares go weekly to the farm at 10 Nurko Road to reap the benefits of organically grown produce. Farmer Dave Burlew and his family provide a wide selection from week to week, starting in late May and continuing through November. Many of the vegetables are heirloom varieties and there are also pick-your-own crops, including flowers and herbs. A roadside table at the farm offers produce for sale from other local farms, including organic free-range eggs. Other reasons to join the Roosevelt CSA farm include activities such as recipe swaps and potluck dinners. A full share will feed a family and costs $500. A single share, which feeds one to two people, costs $300. Members can pick their shares up at the farm weekly from 4 p.m. on Friday until 9 a.m. on Monday . For the entire community, Roosevelt Community Supported Agriculture will sponsor "A love affair with the Earth" at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6 in the Roosevelt Borough Hall. The event will feature a video called "Exploring a New Cosmology," which is a 40-minute reflection on humans' relationship with the Earth. Discussion and refreshments will follow. Those interested in seeing a Community Supported Agriculture brochure can e-mail jerseyfarmhouse@aol.com for one. More information on Roosevelt Community Supported Agriculture is also available at www.localharvest.org.
