Consolidation of ZIP codes nears completion
Once finished, residents can change their mailing addresses permanently
BY JANE MEGGITT
Staff Writer

MILLSTONE - For the first time ever, all residents will soon have the option of using Millstone Township as their mailing address.

Joseph Procida, a growth manager for the United States Postal Service (USPS), appeared before the Township Committee at its May 16 meeting. Procida is involved in consolidating the Englishtown mailing addresses - which a substantial number of residents in the northern and eastern section of town now have - into the town's Perrineville and Clarksburg post offices.

The consolidation of the Englishtown addresses into Millstone Township addresses should be finished by June 9, he said. After that date, Millstone residents who had Englishtown addresses can have their mailing address permanently changed.

Millstone residents who have Hightstown or Robbinsville mailing addresses will be able to change their addresses to Millstone Township mailing addresses after August, according to Procida.

Once the consolidation has been completed, residents who use the Clarksburg post office will be able to use either Clarksburg or Millstone Township in the last line of their mailing address. Those residents who use the Perrineville post office will be able to use either Perrineville or Millstone Township in the last line of their mailing address.

The Clarksburg office will cover the southern half of town, while the Perrineville office will cover the northern half. Post office boxes will be maintained with either Clarksburg or Perrineville mailing addresses, he said.

Mayor Nancy Grbelja asked about the mail situation for Woodville Road (Route 527) residents. The road is the eastern boundary of Millstone Township.

Procida said that the Manalapan side of the road is called Smithburg Road. Millstone residents currently have their mailboxes located across the street from their homes on the Manalapan side, he said.

The USPS sent a letter to Woodville Road residents stating that they can now change their address to Woodville Road instead of Smithburg Road. Those residents can also move their mailboxes to their side of the road.

"I've been on Woodville Road enough to know it could be hazardous to run across the street to get mail," Procida said.

Grbelja also asked about some of the streets near St. Joseph's Church on Stillhouse Road. She said the township received complaints about mail designations in that area.

Procida said that area of town will now be considered as having a Clarksburg mailing address. He said the USPS used Sweetmans Lane as a dividing line between the Perrineville and Clarksburg locations, as it seemed like the most practical way to divide the town in half.

Grbelja said she hopes the transition on June 9 will be smooth. Procida said he would be in the township on June 8 when equipment from Englishtown is moved into Millstone. He said he believes residents will find that they have better service at the Clarksburg and Perrineville post offices than they had with the Englishtown post office.

"They won't have to travel so far to pick up mail," he said.
