ReRun announces sale of Moneighs on eBay

With the second leg of the Triple Crown fast approaching, ReRun's selection of Moneighs by classic contenders and champions has been placed on eBay.

The paintings, created by racehorses such as John Henry, Victory Gallop, and Kentucky Derby winners Giacomo and Gato del Sol, are sold to benefit ReRun, a nonprofit that finds second careers for retired thoroughbreds that were once used for racing, according to a ReRun press release.

With more than 40 horses currently available for adoption, ReRun boards at foster farms in New Jersey, New York and Kentucky and is funded completely through donations and grants.

The horses create the Moneighs using their whiskers, lips and noses. Many of the animal "artists" hold a paintbrush between their teeth to splash vivid colors on art paper, which is finished off with a ribboned piece of mane, stamped with an authentic ReRun Moneigh insignia and then matted. Information about the horse, or a photo of the creation of the piece, is often included with the painting.

The eBay auction, which began on May 20, ends May 26.

Some of the Moneighs being offered were made by Cherokee Run, a horse who took second place in the 1993 Preakness; Commendable, who won the 2000 Belmont; Louis Quatorze, who won the 1996 Preakness; and Point Given, who won the 2001 Preakness and Belmont.
