Memorial Day parade scheduled for May 28 Ceremony at township memorial to feature National Guard member
MILLSTONE - "Honoring Their Sacrifice" is the theme for Millstone Township's 2007 Memorial Day parade.
Millstone's annual Memorial Day parade will be held Monday, May 28. The event will start at 10 a.m., rain or shine, according to a press release from the Millstone Township Veterans Memorial Council.
The parade will start at the Clarksburg post office, located on Stagecoach Road by Scooters Corner, and will end at the township's Veterans Memorial, which is located next to the Municipal Building on Stagecoach Road.
In addition to community volunteer organizations, Millstone's parade will also feature riders from area equestrian associations on horseback. U.S. Army National Guard troops will also participate.
The N.J. State Police Pipers Corps will have a bagpiper playing traditional military tunes during the event. The Millstone Township Middle School band will also provide a musical interlude.
Flags and "Support Our Troops" decals will be handed out free to the public.
Immediately following Millstone's parade, a special honors ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial. Lt. Colonel John Sheard, of the N.J. Army National Guard, will be the keynote speaker.
Sheard is a member of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association and serves on the board of directors of New Jersey's Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program.
At the memorial, a special ceremony will be held to honor United States troops killed in action. Taps will be played on bugle and trumpet in a performance by Dr. Scott Palmer and Allan Boyce. Lipica Shah, a Millstone resident who attends New York University's Tisch School of the Arts for acting, will sing a verse from taps.
Multidenominational clergy will lead the prayer during the ceremony.
Following the ceremony, the Clarksburg Inn, which is across the street from the Veterans Memorial, will host a free lunch barbecue and a cash bar for anyone attending.
Parade registration is ongoing and forms are available at the Millstone Township Municipal Building for organizations that would like to march, enter a float or drive a vehicle in the parade.
All area military personnel and veterans are asked to join in Millstone Township's parade, and to attend the military honors ceremony.
Ample parking for the public will be available at Bowman's Court. Members of the public are urged to arrive early to park.
