'Cooper' to visit Historic Walnford on Sept. 16

What's a cooper? See one firsthand and find out on Sunday, Sept. 16 from 1-4 p.m., when one of the area's most accomplished woodworkers visits Historic Walnford in Upper Freehold for a demonstration.

The long forgotten tradecraft involves building containers using staves, hoops, and old-fashioned tools. In the past, coopers built casks, barrels, and buckets that were used for everything from shipping containers to storing liquids.

Historic Walnford is just off 195 (Exit 8, traveling west; Exit 11, traveling east). For more information on the site and specific directions, visit www.monmouthcountyparks. com, or call (609) 259-6275.
