Autumn is the season for Allentown artists

Allentown Art Guild members Shan Hoffmann and Ericka O'Rourke hang artwork for the guild's fall show at the Jeff Martin Photography Studio in Allentown.
ALLENTOWN - An art show during the borough's annual Harvest Festival will feature more than 100 works by area artists.

The Allentown Art Guild, a nonprofit organization made up of full- and part-time artists from Allentown, Roosevelt, the Cream Ridge section of Upper Freehold and the Perrineville section of Millstone, will present its second annual fall art show during the festival Oct. 13-14. The Jeff Martin Photography Studio, 78 N. Main St., will host the show for the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days of the event.

The show will feature original oil, watercolor and acrylic paintings of New Jersey and other subjects, as well as works in stained glass, mixed media, pottery and graphite.

Because part of the guild's mission is to make the visual arts more accessible to the public, guild members will also be demonstrating various art techniques throughout the weekend.

This year's show will allow the guild to help another local nonprofit, with the guild donating a percentage of the sales of guild members' artwork in the show to the Allentown Public Library.

The guild, which currently has 27 members, holds monthly meetings that include workshops, demonstrations and lectures by distinguished artists from New Jersey and New York City. In addition, the group organizes plein air painting sessions for artists and conducts field trips, such as visits to top museums in the metropolitan area.

During the Harvest Festival, the organization will set out Allentown Art Guild balloons that lead from downtown Allentown to the art exhibit.

More information about the show, the art demonstration schedule, and the guild and its monthly activities can be found by visiting www.allentownartguild.org or by calling Elizabeth Martin at (609) 259-0455 or Diane Koye at (609) 758-8119.
