Goodbye, good goody girl
AHS Drama Club wraps up 'Millie' musical
BY MELANIE SMOLYN Correspondent

Millstone's Nicole Aszman, a senior at Allentown High School, plays the part of villainous hotel owner Mrs. Meers in the high school drama club's "Thoroughly Modern Millie."
ALLENTOWN - Combining jazz, liquor, love andAsian accents makes for a thoroughly entertaining evening.

The Allentown High School Drama Club used this exact elixir to thrill audiences on Feb. 28-29 and March 1 in its rendition of the musical "Thoroughly Modern Millie."

Set in the 1920s, the show revolves aroundMillie Dillmount, played byAllentown High School senior Ashley Folino. Millie ventures to New York from a small town in Kansas, ready to do anything in order to get to the top. Along the way she encountered a villainous hotel owner, a flock of up-and-coming actresses and Jimmy Smith, played by sophomore Tom McGovern.

Once Millie meets Jimmy, the play transforms into a traditional romantic comedy and the leading lady learns to overcome all of her woes by succumbing to true love.

This year's spring musical has been an ambitious adventure for the Allentown Drama Club. Director and Choreographer Nicole Machin described the production as "a show so different than anything else."

Previous plays at Allentown High School could be considered small and simplistic when compared to this performance, which contained a handful of leads and about 30 ensemble members. On top of that, Musical Director Mark Megill enlisted

an orchestra to accompany the vocalists, Cheryl Chambliss adorned the actors

and actresses with numerous costume changes and Brad Nicklas designed a set complete with roof-high storefronts.

Many people and aspects came together to create the exhibition of talent and grandeur that was the drama club's "Thoroughly Modern Millie."
