Run, walk for a memory in Millstone on May 31

Runners line up for last year's Run for a Memory 5K in Millstone. The event will take place this year at 9 a.m. May 31 at Millstone Primary School.
MILLSTONE - The Petrella family invites area residents to join them for a run in the sun on May 31.

The Millstone family will hold its annual "Run for a Memory" 5K at 9 a.m. at the Millstone Township Primary School. Proceeds from the event will go to the John Petrella Jr. Scholarship Foundation, which supports classified students in the community in honor of John Jr., who passed away unexpectedly in October 2003 at the age of 16.

The family hopes to continue building on its previous success with the community event and looks forward to more participants than ever this year. In its first year, the run garnered 100 runners and walkers. Last year, 125 people signed up for the race.

Shirley Petrella said the 3.2-mile course is not timed. She encouraged joggers, power walkers and residents with baby carriages and pets to consider joining in the fun for a good cause.

"Run for a Memory" has an entry fee of $20 and includes a free T-shirt. Entry forms are available at Millstone Township's municipal building on Route 524 in the Clarksburg section of town,Allentown High School in Allentown, and the PNC Bank located on the corner of Millstone Road and Route 33 and are due May 21.

The family hopes that the sun will shine down on the run as it has every year since its inception, but will hold the event if it rains.
