Communities unite to relay for life, ACS
PLUMSTED- The New Egypt,Allentown and Millstone Township communities have united once again to fight cancer in theAmerican Cancer Society's Relay for Life event slated to be held at New Egypt High School, 117 Evergreen Road, Plumsted.
The event will begin May 9 with a survivors' dinner at 6 p.m. and conclude at sunrise on May 10.
Over the years, the Relay for Life events that have been held in Plumsted with the participation of Allentown and Millstone Township neighbors has raised more than $600,000 for the American Cancer Society, according to a press release.
The opening ceremony will begin at 7 p.m., followed by the survivors' dessert reception at 8 p.m. The luminaria (memorial candles in bags) ceremony will begin at 10 p.m. Cancer survivors or current cancer patients and their caregivers are invited to attend the survivors' dinner free of charge.

The entire Relay for Life event is open to the public and will be held rain or shine. Activities for the public are scheduled throughout the event, including food vendors, pony rides, dunk tank, music, silent auction, poker tournament, team challenge games, face painting, bingo, golf, tennis, Wiffle ball games, volleyball, flag football, movies for children and a trivia contest.
In addition, a health-awareness center will provide skin-cancer screenings and cancer-prevention education.
