      Despite the rain, support shines for the UFA Alliance

      Fans of the local band Liquid Island and fabulous classic cars came out for the Upper Freehold Allentown Alliance for the Prevention of Drug and Alcohol Abuse car show Wednesday night, June 24, at Byron Johnson Park despite the dreary weather.

      Clockwise from top: Classic cars were a main attraction at the June 24 car show sponsored by the UFA Alliance for the Prevention of Drug and Alcohol Abuse. Alliance Chairman Sal Diecidue and Coordinator Deborah Minnick presented the trophy for Best Modified to Chuck Morris for his 1954 Chevy. Nicole Krosnowski (l) and Christina Diecidue were among the high school volunteers. Liquid Island of New Egypt entertained the crowd for the third year in a row. Dozens ran for cover when torrential rains hit around 7:15, but most attendees remained for the trophy ceremony. Proud car owners were seen wiping down their cars while community members admired and chose their "people's choice."

      Alliance Coordinator Deborah Minnick and Chairman Sal Diecidue handed out the trophies. The winners were:

      • Best of Show — Tina Shipe, 1978 Pontiac Firebird;

      • Best Antique — Melissa Eggert, 1967 Mustang;

      • Best Modified — Chuck Morris, 1954 Chevy;

      • Chairman's Award — John Zimmerman, Chevy Biscayne.

      Proceeds of the car show went to support the Upper Freehold Allentown Alliance for the Prevention of Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

      The Alliance issued a special thank you to Keith Forman and Liquid Island of New Egypt for playing at the car show for the last three years, and to the Allentown High School Lifesavers teens who worked very hard through rain or shine.

      High school volunteers were Morgan Marsicano, Corryn Sargent, Alicia Trappanese, Mathew Goldberg, Christina Diecidue, Nicole Krosnowski and Amber Minnick.
