MILLSTONE — The township Girl Scouts recently presented Service Unit Community Awards to the Millstone Township Volunteer First Aid Squad — Richard Brody, Bill Nurko, Susan DiVila and Millstone Township service unit manager, Diana Kohlhepp. This award recognizes community members whose services have contributed directly to a troop/group or service unit.

The Millstone Township Volunteer First Aid Squad significantly helped Girl Scout Troop No. 307 complete its Bronze Award by preparing them to run a community workshop on basic first aid and CPR for children. Donna O'Leary, president of the First Aid Squad, along with five other members, trained the girls and assisted them at the workshop, which was held on a Friday evening in March.

Richard Brody, a veteran of the Vietnam War and the commander of the Veterans Coalition Millstone Post 03, assisted Girl Scout Madeline Collins with her Gold Award. She wrote a children's book about Memorial Day and Brody was an integral part by guiding her with the book by keeping it accurate and simple enough for children.

William Nurko received his award for helping the Girl Scouts over the years, especially Lipica Shah with her Gold Award in the past.

Susan DiVila, a mother from one of the Girl Scout troops, received her award because she helped the service unit by taking care of the shipping for the Make a Difference Day foot care packages for the military and the "Troops Helping Troops" packages.

Diana Kohlhepp received her award for her many volunteer positions and accomplishments within the Girl Scouts.
