Millstone Community Education Summer camps to get under way Bruce Bray - Magician, one show only, Wednesday, July 8, 2 p.m. Fee, $8. Primary School Cafeteria. Bruce Bray is a nationally known magician who specializes in shows for children. He has performed at the White House three years in a row. Sewing Seams — Get ready to create your own fashions. In this basic sewing class, you will start with a pillow. Then you will make a backpack tote, adding your personal design touch as you add decoration. Finally for the main project you will learn how to make a simple skirt. The camp provides the fabric, buttons and bows needed as well as three machines. Bring your own sewing machine if you have one (Instructor will show you how to use it). Limit 10 students. Instructor Nancy Bailey, high school home economics/ fashion design teacher. July 6-9; ages 9-plus; Millstone Middle School, Room 942; 10 a.m.-noon; Fee, $95. Foods for Summer — Become the chef in your family when you learn all about foods, nutrition, and cooking. A culinary tour around the world will ending with the U.S. as particpants have fun preparing traditional backyard barbecue. You will make appetizers, salads, entrees, and desserts, and take home your very own cookbook with all the recipes. Instructor Nancy Bailey, high school home economics/fashion design teacher. July 6- 9; ages 10 plus; Millstone Middle School kitchen; 12:30-2:30 p.m. Fee: $115. Chess Camp — Learn chess from the best! Instructor is Alex Braylovskiy, a U.S. certified chess coach and championship player who has been a professional chess instructor for more than 20 years. His students have accumulated a number of prestigious titles locally and nationally. Students are grouped by ability. Ages 6 plus, July 13-16 or July 20-23; Millstone Middle School Library; 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Fee, $105. Step Into the Spotlight: Theater for Middle School — This class will focus on the role of the actor on stage. Through fun-filled theater games and activities, students, ages 11-15, will explore the principles of stage movement, voice, and imagination that combine to create and communicate a character. Activities will include pantomime, radio plays, playwriting, monologue and scene study. Students will develop characters based on improvised as well as scripted material. Get ready for middle school play tryouts. At the last class students will perform short excerpts of their work. Instructor Lisamarie Cappuzzo has a B.A. in theater education and has most recently directed "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" at Millstone Elementary School. July 13- 16; Millstone Performing Arts Center; 9:30 a.m. -12:30 pm, Fee, $145 Junior Apprentice: Design Your Own Business — Are you a future entrepreneur or own business owner? Use the computer to design a product of your imagination. Something no one has even seen, or a variation on a current product! Then design a company around the product including a logo and advertising blitz. Learn about other important business decisions such as accounting, finances, and employees. Participants should have a basic knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. On the last day, if you choose, you can present your idea to the class and parents. Zoofari Art Camp — Learn how to draw some of your favorite animals, anyone can be an artist! Experiment with many different mediums including charcoal, copper tooling and pastels. Different textures will be used, including animal print foam and rainbow and velour paper. Paint a snake, sculpt a fish, design a safari hat and more. Instructor KidZart staff. Campers bring lunch; ages 6-10; July 6-9; Millstone Middle School art room; 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.; Fee, $125. |
